Lessons with Jeanne Schiebel
Jeanne Schiebel’s role as a riding instructor does not end in the lesson arena. She serves on the Polk County 4-H Advisory Board, has her own 4-H Club and is the Dressage Manager for each Polk County 4-H Show. Her students excel in numerous disciplines; including jumping and dressage. They are always in the ribbons and win championships frequently at local shows. They go on to participate in Polk County Youth Fair, Area C 4-H District Championships, State 4-H Championships and even 4-H Regional Championships. Her students also participate and excel in Lakeland Dressage Association Shows and Sumter Equestrian Center Shows.
To prepare students for competition, Jeanne includes them in fun shows at the farm and 4-H meeting activities that teach show preparation and basic horse care.
To further her student’s knowledge, Jeanne encourages them to complete the Certification Horsemanship Association’s Manual. This book is modeled after the Pony Club Manuals and teaches the rider safety and riding information at many levels. Each level has written and riding tests that must be passed to move on. If a student completes the book, he or she has obtained enough knowledge in horsemanship to be able to move on to an intercollegiate program when old enough.

Schalamar Creek Stables
Jeanne Schiebel is now available for lessons at Schalamar Creek Stables
Jeanne has been teaching hunt seat and dressage lessons for over 20 years and has been riding and competing for over 40 years. She grew up riding at hunter/jumper stables and camps in Virginia and Maryland. Since her father was against purchasing a horse, she always rode the horses that no one else wanted to ride and this is what led her to the art of horse training.
She started competing regularly, when she moved to Sarasota in 1978. Throughout the years, she has shown hunt seat, dressage, and even western pleasure. Before moving to Lakeland, Jeanne was blessed with the opportunity to train with Klaus Freassdorf (former member of the German Equestrian Team) for many years and ride his dressage school masters. With his help and the instructors at Grand Cypress Equestrian Center, she was able to learn to execute dressage movements through Grand Prix. Jeanne has used this knowledge to write articles for Dressage Today Magazine, Dressage and Combined Training Magazine, Dressage Connections Magazine as well as Horse & Pony Magazine.
Her most recent accomplishments are showing dressage through Second Level and is currently riding an eventing horse, “Over the Max,” who she hopes to excel with in both jumping and dressage. Jeanne is the mother of three children and a middle school special education teacher at Lakeland Christian School. Jeanne has a strong love for Christ, horses and teaching. Inspired by her daughter and students, Jeanne is very active in Polk County 4-H; serving as a member of the Advisory Board, 4-H leader and manager of each 4-H show dressage division. Jeanne founded Lakeland Dressage Association shortly after moving to the area 18 years ago.
Through LDA, Jeanne learned to manage recognized dressage shows, clinics with Grand Prix riders, serve as quadrille team captain plus hold various offices (including president) for many years.
